A while back the Mid-Atlantic group sat down to discuss a rules change in
regards to vehicle ratings. If I recall correctly, two proposals were
floated as possible replacements for the current system. These were
all vehicles have a 4/40 rating or ratings would be based on the size of
the model as built. I personally am not in the rate all vehicles the same
camp because I think this will lead to a standardization of a limited
number of model types that are deemed “most competitive”. I personally
would like to see a myriad of vehicle designs battling on the field on an
equal and competitive basis so am advocating ratings based on model size.
Under such a scheme, a builder could build any tank design they wanted and
would just scale it up or down to get their desired rating.

I'd like to see some traction on getting one of these proposals implemented
because there seems to be some interest by prospective builders in fielding
1:6 scale super heavy tanks. Since such tanks would be at an extreme
disadvantage under the current ratings system (and the first proposal),
there’s obvious hesitation in building the bigger models. We’ve been
discussing a ratings change for years now and I think the ambiguity this
brings to the building process needs to be addressed sooner than later.

For reasons stated above, I’m proposing a change in the ratings process
that is based on size of the model as built (the speed limits are a
suggestion for future consideration).
