Im not sure why people get so hysterical whenever someone tries something
different...

A few months ago someone suggested we move to brushless motors and said he
was going to try it, and several other people really put down his idea...

Now someone suggests a new type of transmission and its open season...

I can definitely see concerns with a double differential drive. It looks
more complicated to design and build for one.

I like the idea of using a golf car motor but you may find it way to big
and heavy.

My suggestions are the same as all other robotics projects ; start by
seeing what other people did, then make a plan for a test bed or proof of
concept then prove the concept then make a detailed plan then build it.
