Eric -

The minimum battery size we recommend for AC coupled applications is
about 100 amp-hours at 48VDC - roughly 4kWH at 80% DOD - this allows
good motor starting performance and provides the necessary stability for
the battery-less grid-tie inverter to continue powering loads.

Smaller batteries have been used successfully - but they need to be
either very high performance / low impedance (such as Optima type
batteries) or the loads need to be very modest with little starting
surge requirements. The cost for the smaller Optimas is usually the
same as the larger sealed AGM batteries so they do not make sense to me
to use unless the smaller / lighter benefits are needed (such as in a
portable display for example).

Let me know your specifics and I will work up so recommendations.

Subject: [RE-wrenches] AC coupling

Fellow PV Techies -

When designing an AC coupled PV system using Outback: Am I correct that
the battery bank can be minimally small, as they are just there to power
the GVFX Output and mimic the grid for the grid-tied inverter of choice?

Thanks,
