The transfer switch and protective relay are to
allow for both generator and grid charging.

AC coupling with the OutBack off-grid inverters
and a typical batteryless grid-tie inverter
doesnt require any additional transfer switches
or protective relays its actually pretty
simple depending on how fancy the battery charging regulation needs to be.
It can be very cost effective and worth considering on any projects.
