Wrenches,

Kudos to Ray for "getting down to basics" May I suggest that my own
observations are that a comprehensive visual inspection of the
affected component can be the most valuable time spent diagnosing a
problem.

Recently I was called in after five other techs had "looked" at the
power vented tank water heater and replaced numerous parts, all to no
avail. Simply looking at the installation under operation revealed
that condensate was not properly being drained from the heater. All
the onboard diagnostics could never have recognized what a simple
visual inspection offered. RTFM, understand what you have read and
execute those instructions to the letter. The end result, whether if be
for water or electric is a trouble free installation. An installation
that brings you more business and produces a happy customer.

Respectfully,

Thank you all for your help. Ray gets the gold star long distance
diagnostics award as it was simply a thin layer of ice underneath the
air cleaner. I cleared that out and it started right up and ran in
good shape.
