RB doesn't create the open dialog, Apple (or other OS vendor) does.

Before you say that is the OS fault, use Text Edit and check. It must be an another problem.

Maybe, or maybe this is one of those little Cocoa/Carbon differences. Honestly, RB's code has nothing at all to do with the splitter; the fact that there's a splitter there at all on some OSes is solely the OS's doing.

As another example, for the first couple of years of OS X, the little "Replace file 'foo'?" dialog that appears when you enter an existing file name in a Save As dialog had a throbbing OK button, yet would not respond to the Return or Enter keys. That annoyed the heck out of me, yet there was nothing RB could do about it, because it's entirely built into the OS. Apple finally fixed that one about a year ago, though.
