I am wondering if anyone has a class or plugin that can read and write
multiple versions of ID3 tags. I would be more than happy to pay a
reasonable amount for the code.

Have you had a look at the MP3 Info Class project Christian has in his
website? It's a bit old but could be a good basis for further
development (=write).
