Well I'm in an odd place in my RB learning right now: somewhere between beginner and intermediate. There's no topic in particular I'm looking for aside from general RB class instruction beyond someone who's never programmed before.

I'm in the graphics field and I tend to be very visual. There's only so much I can absorb reading RB books (and old books at that). I'm a much better learner in a classroom setting, with real-time examples and someone I can ask questions immediately. And I'd like a better idea from the beginning of proper programming techniques before I become too entrenched in something that may be all wrong.

I know RB doesn't have the installed base of anything like XCode or VB, but if enough people were interested, it might be feasible. REALWorld has a lot going on but I think a weekend-long intensive RB course would give me just what I need to progress faster. REALWorld's dates didn't work for me this year, so maybe what I'm proposing could be done some months later. Or if that doesn't work, maybe it could be a few days before REALWorld and be part of one big honkin' RB week.

The closest thing to what I'm thinking of is one of Big Nerd Ranch's mini-bootcamps, like this one: http://www.bignerdranch.com/classes/objc.shtml. Their classes are out in the middle of the woods, at a lodge with great food and scenery. The surroundings really perk up your spirits, and the seclusion helps you stay focused.

As to what I would pay? Instruction like this doesn't come cheap, especially when there's lodging and dining to consider. My guess would be somewhere in the $500-$1,000, depending on what exactly is being offered. (As a comparison, Big Nerd charges $1000 for their mini-bootcamp mentioned above, which includes everything but your airfare.)

But it could be a different scenario: maybe just instruction in smaller groups in a few select cities with high RB user concentration. Interest and economics are going to be the determining factors.

 >Has any thought ever been given to a weekend-long RB training
course?, similar to the terrific Big Nerd Ranch courses? Something
with a narrower focus (both subject- and audience-wise) than
REALWorld?

That's an interesting idea. Are there any topics in particular you'd
want training for?

Best,
- Joe
