With lots of memory. I think the big difference between 5.5.5 and 2005/2006
is how much more memory 2005/2006 uses. Even with 1 GB RAM RB can consume
all of the free memory and cause lots of swapping.

Yes, that's a very good point.
With 512MB, RB2006 is about 4 times slower compiling my app vs RB 5.5
With 1GB and no measurable swapping, RB2006 is only about 2.5 times slower.
