To REALbasic User Network subscribers,

From: Mark O'Neill,

Is there any point in catering for the OS 9 user in this day and age or should we just focus on OS X, XP and Linux...?

Thanks.

It really does depend on your application, and who's using it. As long as...

(1) there is demand for an OS 9 version,
(2) you have a system that you can use to test OS 9 versions (or users that you trust do),
(3) sacrificing features for compatibility is not necessary,
(4) competition still updates their applications for OS 9, and
(5) REALbasic is still able to compile OS 9 applications,

...there's every reason for you to continue catering to OS 9 users.

Items (1) - (4) will naturally dwindle and/or become more difficult over time. Item (5), of course, is up to REALsoftware.

Personally, I think that OS 9 support is a legitimate consideration (even if not used) through to May 2007, because Apple did the "death of Mac OS 9" show in May 2002 at WWDC. But that's just me.

Good luck!

Cheers, Nathan.
