Let's look at activity monitor and check things: CPU load 95% of both CoreDuo Cores. RB takes 593 MByte of real memory and 'just' __1,14 GByte__ of virtual memory.

And check out how much RAM translated takes up
Probably more and often CPU usage is very low but because translated takes up so much RAM you swap like crazy.
Things get memory starved; or seem to.

So it's not entirely RB's fault.
Rosetta is memory hog too
