Now I'm confused again. I'd like to get this straight before I
purchase Pages.
Then Pages does NOT export the bookmarks to PDF. Or it does export
"links" but not bookmarks.
But if I create a "link" to chapter 2, say, and put that in my
"index" why is that not the same as a "bookmark"
Still trying to work thru this. Thanks for the help
First lets clarify the terminology.
Pages-bookmark = A stationary anchor within a Pages document.
Pages-hyperlink = An html like link within Pages that will take
you to a Pages bookmark.
PDF-hyperlink = An html like link within a PDF document that will
take you to another place in the document.
PDF-bookmark = A global navigation link that will take you
specific place in the document. The link resides in a side drawer
that is always visible.
Pages-bookmarks do not translate to the PDF document.
Pages-hyperlinks translate to PDF-hyperlinks. You cannot create
(as of yet) PDF-bookmarks with Pages. If all you want are
hyperlinks, then you need nothing other than Pages to do the job
(acrobat not needed). Hyperlinks are not as useful as
PDF-bookmarks since they reside in the content of the document and
not globally like PDF-bookmarks.
To create PDF-bookmarks you need one of the following.
- Word on a PC and Acrobat for the PC with PDF Maker. This gives
you automatic PDF-bookmark creation based of the TOC of the Word
document.
- InDesign (but is expensive at $700). Automatic creation of
PDF-bookmarks based off the TOC.
- Acrobat for either the Mac or PC. Manual creation of
PDF-bookmarks and must be done each time the you update the Pages
document (from scratch).
