Some users, including myself (and I register all my software, either through my boss or on my own account), won't accept software that quits if it cannot be registered without an internet connection. Serial validation on an internet server, ok, but only once and only when the connection is available, so that I can use it even if I'm on the road and don't have an internet connection available.
