I would think that the first thing any hacker would do would be to install a network blocker and refuse any network activity for the target application. Your feature would never be broadcasted.

The only way around that is to refuse to run the application unless network activity is enabled and a valid response is received... but that causes a whole bunch of problems such as the application cannot run without an active internet connection (which would completely annoy paying customers), and the fact that your app would be "calling home" on every launch (privacy infringement?).
