Hi Long,

There were many times, someones on this mailing kept
on suggesting to use Postgres w/ RB. I tried it and
found that it has so many features similar to
commercial product like Oracle. The product is very
stable and comes with a Windows installer and easy to
use. It's license policy is extremely generous.

I went down the PostgreSQL route but was deterred by the lack of integrated Full text Indexing (a must for my main application) FTI is available as an add-on but it must be built from source with Postgres. I think it's difficult to expect an end user of my app to have to build from source - even to see a demo of my app. If you have no need for FTI, then PG may be great and the pgSQL4RB classes are very nice.

Valentina's support is great. The pricing model is reasonable once you understand it. It offers a simple move from single to multi user.

I never really considered Postgres or MySQL for single user applications - as I expect you wouldn't with Oracle. Valentina and the RealSQLite DB have the advantage of being equally simple for both single user or client/server but I believe Valentina is faster, cheaper and arguably more feature rich.

cheers

kim
