Thanks for your reply. I am expecting my (our) code to be faulty, but I
have to trace that down. In fact this code is totally based on the one
used for the Training course I was participating.
To your opinion, and to try to concentrate on the essential to track the
bug down, apart from issuing a SQL string as "DROP DATABASE
database_name" (which is not present in my code), what sort of other
command could delete a Table in the Database?

1) Create and manage the database from code. The DB editor in the
IDE can be very quirky. Most of problems went away when I gave up
on the IDE editor and wrote my own.
2) I do not use any of the db controls or objects in the IDE.
Easier to write and control your own classes that retrieve and set
data.
