Have any of you looked at the SDK from Adobe, as in interfacing with it from RB? I think one of the biggest issues with flash is that they like to take their sweet time with updating their linux releases. I also don't know how viable it is to expect to be able to just compile to a flash version of your app. It would be a huge project, and I'd much rather see development efforts to fix little bugs that have been around for a while and improving existing mechanisms. If you want to do apps in Flash, I'd suggest looking at OpenLaszlo. It's XML based, so if you really wanted to you could likely code your own form designer for it. For that matter, look into Flash itself. I don't know what limitations you're referring to, as regards a tutoring tool, but I'd be willing to wager that you'll find a way to do it inside pure Flash if you really dig into it.

With all that said, if you want a web app, make a web app. They're a different beast, in my opinion, than a desktop or even "standard" network app. Explore lightweight and flexible concepts like PHP, CSS, and so on. Flash is nice for movies, in this way, and for little games, but I wouldn't say it's ideal for applications.

Just me though.

It seems to me that Flash is becoming more and more important and somehow Realsoftware needs to come to grips with this. (I know I know it is just another user request amongst many - RealSoftware does well to keep improving RB- so this is not a rant at Real Software). However I would like to see some features in RB that would make it more of a competitor to Director in producing what used to be called multimedia software. Sure we can animations but it requires a fair bit of work.

You're not the only person looking for a way to do this.
There is an open source project called MING that, if it were turned into a plugin, a number of people would be interested in using it.

I've mucked about with getting MING to compile on OS X and while it compiles it doesn't DO anything or me.
The included C test app produces no output except an empty SWF file.

Very few others that I've been able to locate on the web have gotten MING to compile and work on OS X

IF there were someone with more time to take this on I think there would be several people who'd pay for it
