I've never tried SMIL on an older machine, but I have made small
synchornised presentations using the rmmerge utility in RealProducer 5.0
and these played back fine on an old 75mhz Pentium notebook with 16mb of
RAM.
The sound files, however, were confined to 16.0kbps mono and the other
content was animated .gifs and still images.
I'm not sure about the video implications.
Possibly it has more to do with the RAM requirements of the G2 Player
rather than the encoding?
Do you have an older Real Player on the slower machines or the G2?
