Manuel:
Im having the same problem. A friend of mine has a radio station and
has a Celeron using 3 sound cards on the same machine. He uses them for
playing, encoding, and listening respectively, but the thing is that he uses
them for the station itself, not for live broadcasting on the internet. I
believe this is possible. He told me that for freeing up IRQs, you should
disable COM ports unused, LPT port, etc., so you can put more cards.
However I think that using RealAudio Encoder (old version) this is also
possible. Because in the status bar displayed under the encoding, theres
the buffer usage, and I have currently one computer running it, and uses 1%
(sometimes reaches 5%) of buffer size (Celeron 366 64 Megs Win98). So, if
you put more cards, I believe that this number would not increase very much.
In the help file, it says that if this number increases steadly, this would
output an error message that the machine cannot process live encoding.
I believe that this is right, but it's worth the trying.
I'm making the test this week or the next. I'll tell you how it worked
out.
But in case you have further information, would you please let me know
(or post it to this list), so that I can assure me of this? Thanks.
[ Moderator's Note: It is not possible to run multiple instances of the
RealAudio Encoder under Windows. You can run multiple instances of the
RealAudio Encoder under different UNIX'es though. ]
