I'd use a small audio mixer to mix two signals; the music mix output from your
DJ/band mixer and a "ambiance" mic that picks up general room and crowd sounds.
You'll want the direct music feed for the sound quality, and mix in just a
little of the room sound to make it sound like a party rather than just a CD.
Use that to feed your Real encoder.

As for the choice of mic...you'll need a decent quality condenser mic, 
perhaps a
Shure SM81 or equivalent.
