Hi Jordi,
Yes the questions are pretty basic, but the answers may not be written
anywhere...

Current realXtend server is a fork, which we have merged periodically to
newest OpenSim. The merge work has been really painful so we decided to
change that.
Adam from Deepthink, one of the core developers of OpenSim is helping us out
and he is turning realXtend server side modifications into region modules.
When this work is finished, realXtend can be distributed as DLLs on top of
OpenSim (Adam, correct me if I got this wrong). The realXtend team is
helping Adam and Adam's team with this work and we expect to finish it
before Christmas.

The viewer is a fork from SL Viewer and yes the code is very different
already. The realXtend team made a merge from OpenLife R15 fork of SL Viewer
to get some of the newest SL features - now the viewer works well with SL
again. We may do merge again when there are enough reasons to do it.
However, doing merge is painful here too.

The viewer became Windows-only because we didn't have enough developers to
ensure cross platform compatibility from the start. We made clear decision
to use only components that are cross platform so that it remains a
possibility. During last summer we did work with Kripken to build the viewer
for Linux - and as he said in his reply - we got quite far. That work was
stopped, or at least paused to make the merge I mentioned.
Now I think we continue to develop some features before we want to start to
maintain builds for Linux/Mac, so I see the cross platform support coming at
some point in the future.
Good news is that Kirstenlee from 3DX team is currently making Mac realXtend
viewer and said that she would try to make a linux build as well, but I
don't know about her schedules - Klee can you comment on this?

Roadmap and release schedule is changing now quite rapidly based on Scrum
sprint results. Some interesting data can be found from
sites.realxtend.org/yanipinion/
The next release date is undecided, but I expect we may have a release
around the end of November, and definitely before Christmas.

Best,
Jani
