With all due respect Michael, it is indeed possible to create highly
productive development tools that do not have steep learning curves. I
am very much a noob, but I know that I like to be able to get
productive quickly and then learn little bits as I go. If I have to
learn a whole bunch of stuff before I can do anything I tend to quit,
unless its really necessary. Honestly, I think my perspective is
pretty common.

And while it is true that FMS's as1 style scripting is crap, If they
were to just add a better language and a few additional API calls,
their model would be both easy *and* powerful. The underlying model
does not need to be complex and to require lots of complicated
knowledge to do powerful things.

I, for one, think that as much of spring that can be hidden should be.
I am not clear why knowing anything about spring should be a
requirement for this product. It seems to me that stuff can be hidden
or presented in a way that does not require spring knowledge.
Requiring spring knowledge for server side coding is *very*
intimidating. Yes, I am speaking for myself here. Each commitment to
learning a new API or framework or platform is another burden.
Learning Red5 is a commitment in and of itself. When you need to learn
frameworks a and b to learn platform c its just... well a lot to ask.

Finally, I will say again, Dan's experiences are *extremely* valuable
towards making red5 a better product. The issue is listening to your
customers and where they are having problems, and adjusting the design
accordingly. We need to embrace the kind of stuff that Dan is saying
and try to learn from it. For example, even if dan didnt need to do
what he did to do logging, just the fact that he *thought* he needed
to do it is extremely valuable information.

Regards,
Hank
