Also, some people assign more credibility to an article than an advertisement. Perhaps taking the $4000 per month and use part of it to pay the salaries and benefits of technical writer - programmer teams for Linux articles would be a viable strategy. It sort of like tricking the press into paying you for your advertisements. As a spin off, it might also lead to a gradual improvement in documentation.
