Hi there

just wanted to give some comments to my experiences with RedHat 5.0 as a
sever.

I had 4.2 running on a pentium 200MHZ with 80MB of Ram. It was running bind
version 4.9.6 and apache 1.2.5. The machine would be up and running for weeks.

Then I decided to try out 5.0 and started from scratch, installing all the
packages. Configured just the nameserver and let it go.
After 2 days the nameserver was gone, just quit running. Rebooting, wait
about 2 days and the same happened again.
So I decided to get the source code and compile it freshly, but the same
happened again after about 2 days.

After sending some messages to various mailing lists and newsgroups I
finally gave up, reinstalled 4.2 and the machine has been ever so happy
again since then not requiring any restart.

So, for the moment I can only say that to run bind 4.9.x you should
probably stick with RH 4.2.

Greetings

Serge
