Hi,
If you search the web there are some truly minimal
installs designed to be firewalls on old machines. If
you want to use an old box basically as a dumb terminal,
you can also install an old version of slackware it allows
you to choose exactly what it installs. I set up an old 486
machine with 4 meg of ram and very little space, I think it
had a 40 meg hard drive. The install notes say minimal install
is 20 meg. I installed a network card and they just telnet on.
It is for a private lan that is not connected to the internet
so I can get by with telnet. Better than throwing it away.
