I am new to ppp and have just installed this on
Redhat V4.2 , pppd v2.2
All reasonably ok until I ran the start up script
ifup-ppp0 ifcfg-ppp0 &

After investigation I found that in response to a ps command:
/usr/sbin/chat -v /etc/sysconfig/network scripts/chat ppp0

I worked out that the spaces should not be there so I copied the directory
network-scripts to netscripts and renamed chat-ppp0 to chat_ppp0.
When I issue the command from this directory everything works as expected.

I am worried however that these missing dashes will occur elsewhere and do
not really like my solution. (E.g. /var/run/ppp-ppp0.dev ends up with 0
bytes).

Any ideas would be appreciated.

I have another problem with modems which is not ppp related but would
appreciate a pointer along the correct path.
I am using my modem on cua0 (previously had a mouse).
When using minicom i can ATZ and ATDT9, etc but cannot get any OK response
as ATQ and ATE commands fail.
If I go and make some tea (or coffee) then when I come back the AT
commands all now work as expected.
Having established that this is not ppp or tea related I am not sure what
to to next (Buy an internal modem?)

Any help would be appreciated as I've spent over a day on this so far.

George
