i fail to understand why you would even consider replacing 600 POUNDS of 
rock.  sure the rock may look slimy and may not have much life on the 
exterior, but isn't the value really in the bacteria and other organisms 
within the rock??  and who gives a damn if there isn't much coralline algae 
on the rock.  many of us started with similar and now have TOO MUCH 
coralline algae growing on ph's and front glass.  face it, it'll grow once 
you get the water and lighting improved.

wow, that's the silliest thing i've heard in a while.

anyway, sounds like a cool project.  measure the dimensions /231 and you'll 
know the exact volume.
and some places maybe 5 years ago used to cure rock by placing in complete 
darkness for 4 to 6 weeks.
