Bob,
This was actually something that was done a few years ago by a lady named
Joyce Wilkerson. I just tried to access the link for the survey itself, and
it is no longer available. However, I have a summary of the results on my
that are included in a very long email about survival rates of anemones. It
is a discussion that took place on a forum a couple of years back. It really
puts the whole anemone thing into perspective, and gives you an idea of just
how foolish it is to keep supporting the purchase of anemones in such
proportions as we do. If you, or anyone on the list wouild like to take a
look at this, let me know. I will be happy to send it out. I would send it
to the list, but it is fairly long and may be taxing on some systems. If
anything, it may be interesting to compare results and see if there has been
any improvement on survival rates over the last 3-4 years....

        Hi

I guess this thread gives me a good excuse to introduce myself.

As far as reef tanks are concerned I am very much the 'newbie',
despite that
I am member of several forums and have been for over a year on some.
As far
as this forum is concerned I have read & lurked for about a month.

The question how do you get anemones to live has been a major topic
of
debate on one forum I belong (the old Aquarist.net forum now
International
Marine Aquarists). The debate has been rather heated (I'm English
so excuse
the understatement) as some members didn't have a problem with the
idea of
an animal only living max 3 months when in the wild its lifespan
could be
measured in decades if not centuries.

In the midst of the argument I suggested that as aquarists of equal
experience and with similar expertise have varying success with
anemones,
then why don't we survey the membership and evaluate why some are
successful
and others aren't. I then expanded on this by suggesting that we
approach
as many as possible marine aquarists by inviting all of the forums
our
        members are also members of.

We are fortunate to have Frank Greco of the New York Conservation
Aquarium &
Elizabeth Lukan editor of Fish'N'Chips as members of the forum.
Frank has
jumped at the chance of such research and is a) inviting Dr Daphne
Fautin to
oversee the project and b) preparing a questionnaire. Elizabeth
will
publish the questionnaire in her next issue of Fish'N'Chips as well
as any
        findings.

This approach may or may not provide the answers we are looking for
in this
instance, however, like the Seti project, it could be a powerful
tool for
answering those questions that have, until now remained
unanswerable.

        So, what do you think?

        Bob Allison

        Hi Brian!
Im just curious as to how you get the anemones to live? I
simply can
not get one to live past 30 days!
