Check out the book "Aquatic System Engineering"
It had some great stuff on flow rates for UV. I have a 120G and a 25W UV. In
following that book I believe I run at less than 100GPH thru my UV.

I would agree that you want a slow flow through the UV to give the rays time
to kill the nasties in the water. A 1000 gph does seem like a lot. But I
do not know the specs on this particular UV unit.

Not really. The Aqua 25 watt UV is rated at a max of 1000 GPH. The Mag 12
is rated at 1200 GPH. If you consider the head pressure (at least 4 feet)
plus all of the pipe, elbows, etc., I have to be right around 1000. In
either case, I'm close enough for what I want it for. FWIW
