Again, I have to accept this since I ran a coral reef for many years...and 
this was WAY before there were all these new things on the market...I was 
only using a canister for filtration as well...had a LOT of live rock, 
corals, anonomes, some fish in a 125 gallon and all did very well for many 
years.  Silica is inert...therefore should not cause a problem.  Just my 
findings.
