Jan, It can't be that Amazon can be singly targeted. Whatever starts with Amazon will then apply to all etailers. That has to be the way it grows/changes. So that greater question will need to be considered too. What impact will that have on etailers? And if there are state-taxes on etailers, how does it apply to parallel business models (eg: catalog businesses, ebay sellers, etc). It'd have to be a rather wide governance at that point in time. Singling out Amazon would be disastrous IMHO, and also.. illegal? That's like saying Microsoft has to pay extra / different taxes or Intel, or anyone else.
Careful how that goes: caution to your government colleague. This taxation on etailers is an old debate, being revived and subject to much discussion in the past.
