Bradly Glen,

Thanks for the only positive response I received about 5 tone. Seems like
anything new here meets with a "not invented here" attitude.

We do not use a lot of 5 tone radios here in the US, but recently there have
been a lot of European radios being dumped on the market. I purchased one (a
Christmas present from me to me) to see what all this 5 tone (5TVO) stuff was
all about. There seems to be little information on the web. A search brought
lots of hits but most were ads for radios. A few hits hinted at the
possibilities and explained how the tones worked. Aside from that, I have yet
to find an
in depth explanation of 5 tone. I do understand that there are several
different standards (CCIR, EEA, etc)

I have had a TK809T for about a week now and I am still trying to figure out
how this function operates in the programming software. The software help
files list a lot of functions but do not give an in-depth explanation of how to
put the commands together to do something useful.

My original thought was that maybe we could use it for paging our Red Cross
and ARES groups since individual and group calls are available. The added
functions such as stun and kill would be useful at times but of course everyone
would have to adopt the standard and that seems not to be the case at the
present
time. I also understand you can do auto answerback and other neat functions.

I appreciate you response to my question and I will keep experimenting to
find out how 5 tone works in this radio.

Thanks, Art - KC7GF
