Doug-

The Sioux City metropolitan area is made up of four counties:
Woodbury County (Iowa)
Plymouth County (Iowa)
Dakota County (Nebraska)
Union County (South Dakota)

We originally had ALL FOUR counties programmed into the SAME receiver on my
repeater. However, what we noticed was that a lot of severe storms would be
alerted to Dakota County (Nebraska) but really were not a problem for the
Sioux City area. So we dropped Dakota County from the SAME alert and kept all
the other counties. It works very well
this way, as we are notified for real problems we need to know about but
aren't bothered by distant storms that no one cares about.

In one instance an alert was given for Dakota county, but the storm was over
in the Center/Niobrara area in Knox county, nearly 100 miles & 3 counties
away!!

Watches only for our main coverage area - Madison County - and a few
surrounding counties. Gives us info about our immediate area and possibly a
heads up on what is nearby. SAME is really a boon to select what you want.
