So, the previous code tried to run this "fake windows" mode so that it
could test the Windows-specific escaping functions on Windows when running
tests on Linux, since (almost) nobody runs these tests on Windows.
Since now we're not using the custom escaping and instead relying on the
JDK library, IMO it's ok to remove these tests and replace them with more
generic ones that work on both Windows and Linux.
