Thanks! Opened https://github.com/apache/spark/pull/59465 against `branch-4.0`. It changes Example 2 to `(\d+)(a|b|m)` with idx `1`, which returns `1` with and without this change. I'll also address the review: decode the subject string once in the generated code, reword the Scala and PySpark docs to say the position is counted in `str`, and add a `spark.sql.legacy.*` flag that keeps ignoring `idx`. -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
