A good question. This probably calls for a new unit test...
Presently I'm not feeling too motivated to invest more time in this PR
unless and until a reviewer shows some interest in it. The last time I received
any feedback from a reviewer was seven months ago. Not a word since. I'm
surprised, as my past experience submitting PRs has been nothing like this.
Let's try @hvanhovell. He also works on Spark SQL. Herman, any position on
this? Thank you.
