Is there interest for a kmdl bringing back firewire support to the kernel? This would be fully unsupported by RH, used on your own risk, no reporting of broken kernels to RH with this kmdl installed and so on, but it would beat recompiling the whole kernel yourself - you would be using the stock RH kernel rpm for everything but firewire, and could follow the upgrade paths of errata kernels.
