This would be fully unsupported by RH, used on your own risk, no
reporting of broken kernels to RH with this kmdl installed and so on,
but it would beat recompiling the whole kernel yourself - you would be
using the stock RH kernel rpm for everything but firewire, and could
follow the upgrade paths of errata kernels.
Yes! If nothing else it would give me an option to try when a researcher
brings in a drive with 300GB of data on it. Beats the current situation of
using the old Oracle module or transferring through a Mac back to the
Linux box.
I should also mention that in my searches I turned up someone else
hoping for Firewire in Scientific Linux 5, a RHEL5 rebuild:
