Friends,

Anybody has succesfully install some VMware Virtualization Product's in RHEL
5??

I just re-imaged my primary workstation as rhel 5 and installed vmware server 1.0.3 w/o any problem. It took a while to restore my VMs so I haven't tested to see if they work yet. The console started fine and I was able to add the VMs that had been restored to the console's inventory, I just didn't start any of them.

I'd be interested to hear about the install - I gave it a quick whirl last week but didn't have the necessary AMD64 stuff so it has to compile it. It complained about kernel headers not being where they ought even though it looks like I've installed the RPM's for the kernel. I haven't had chance to look again, but if anyone else has done an AMD64 install I'd be grateful for information.

My install consisted of:

rpm -ivh VMware-server-1.0.3-44356.i386.rpm
vmware-config.pl

On the vmware-config.pl, I accepted all of the defaults except for the location of the VMs.

As noted by others, I do have the kernel-devel packages installed. I'm running it on an x86_64 load with most of the various compat and 32 bit libraries installed (i.e. more or less an @Everything from RH4 days)

I started up all of the VMs and they seem to be working/happy.

Thanks Hugh

I'll give it another stab in the morning.
