Hello,
thanks !
On a DL380G5?

yes, with Modular Smart Array G2.

we use DL380 G5 and RHEL4/RHEL5 without any problems.

Why exactly are you hesitating between RHEL5 and RHEL5u1b?

I am a newbie in this; what I saw on the web is that there is a driver for
the Smart Array Driver named : cciss .
Am I right about this ?
what I am not sure is about this driver: does it work with RHEL5 with
hardware such as
I have ? or maybe it will work only in RHEL 5.1 beta ? from where
should I get this cciss driver ?

shrug, it's built into redhat.(so i don't pay that much attention)

Another thing is: I saw a couple of time talks about Integrated
Lights-Out (iLO) virtual-cdrom; what is this ? when installing from
the dvd drive in the HP machine - am I using it ? as I said, I am a
newbie in this ; sorry for my ignorance.

press [F8] to get to the iLO setup. give the iLO an ip address and a
user/password.
connect the iLO ethernet port to your network.

go back to your desk pc and web browse to that ip. under "Virtual Devices" there is a "Virtual Media" section, where you can mount your pc's cdrom drive or an .iso file on your pc.

you will also be able to launch a remote console. the remote console will give you have "full control" of the server as if you were sitting at it.

yay for not sitting in the server room while installing an OS.
