I did not touch the up2date file.
and :

sslCACert=/usr/share/rhn/RHNS-CA-CERT
# grep serverURL= /etc/sysconfig/rhn/up2date
will confirm that you are actually talking to the correct RHN server
for that cert as well.
If that points to a satellite server or a proxy server then we would
expect this error.
