OK, so you're saying you can't use a customer driver right?  Does that
also leave out ndiswrapper?  If so, a USB ethernet adapter might be an
option.

If they are forcing you to use an unmodified system, you can forget
ndiswrapper which inserts windows binary code into your system, which
is a lot worse than using a newer kernel.  If time is money, you can cut
this short by going and getting either a different PCMCIA adapter, or
a usb one the size of a flash drive for about $20 new or much less on ebay.
Just make sure in advance they are stone age standard enough to work on 2.6.18
red hat kernel.
