It is not (only!) a philosophical position but there are some reasons: - echonomical recession forces companies to limit new investment - "native" (shipped with OS) solutions tend to be more easily manageable. If I need to upgrade a server, I run only a "yum update" and I get also kernel and modules updates. For this reason, for instance, I never install EMC Powerpath (but I use native "dm-multipath") or HP network drivers.
