That QLogic HBA should be what you're looking for.

Going slightly off-topic, if you're using HP c-class blades, you might also consider, instead of iSCSI storage, their new MDS600 storage array:

You use an external SAS controller mezzanine card in your blades, and it basically allows you to attach large-form-factor disks in the MDS600 to the blade. In effect, making a BL495 look and feel more like a DL385 G5p when it comes to storage capacity.

You may be using iSCSI for various other reasons though -- just wanted to interject this point in case you were turning to iSCSI as a cheap and easy way to simply provide for a large enough drive on your BL495s. In our experience, if all you're looking for is cheap local storage (that you can boot from) and don't need the flexibility of SAN storage, the MDS600 is a pretty easy win.

Hi,

I have blade servers that I'd like to boot directly on an iSCSI drive. Is it possible on RHEL5? Will it be possible in RHEL6?

I saw this: http://iscsi-init.sourceforge.net/HOWTO.html. Would that be a solution?

I'd suggest an iSCSI HBA if you want to go this route. We boot quite a
number of systems via iSCSI with Qlogic iSCSI HBA's, including several
RHEL4 and RHEL5 systems (well, actually only a couple of RHEL4 systems
left). My experiences with software iSCSI boot were far less
successful. Just took too many hacks and broke too many ways. I'll
admit we haven't tried in almost two years, so support may have
improved.

We have considered buying our new blades with SSD drives for the OS
boot/root, and using software iSCSI for everything else, or even just
network booting them, but for now iSCSI HBA's have worked well for us.

I thought of that as well. I have HP BL495c blades, that only support SDD drives, but they're very expensive and there is no RAID controller in the BL495. The Qlogic QMH4062 for ths blade is far less expensive than 2 SSD drives.
