I can't really explain myself what is the difference between that and
a regular NIC, though...
The difference is that an iSCSI HBA looks like a SCSI adaptor to your
machine rather than like an ethernet NIC.
Oh, so the HBA does all the iSCSI stuff before the OS boots, so that the
server sees SCSI disks to boot from? Makes sense.
