I was looking for the same information as mentioned in the leading paragraph 
above.    I thought you were speaking more than just anecdotally and might be 
able to point to some hard documentation (I believe you mentioned "VMware's own 
documentation on Linux, or 3rd party solutions") to say "Foo" is supported 
under Windows but not under Linux, but if you are only speaking anecdotally, 
that's fine too.  

I'm interested because I support a number of Linux servers running on vSphere.  
The only thing I have encountered so far being unsupported under Linux is 
filesystem quiescing and use of the Windows VSS to make backups more likely to 
be consistent and restorable. Whether or not that is because the equivalent 
mechanisms don't exist under Linux is a point to debate, I guess.

If you have other documented or anecdotal "gotchas" then please do share.
