Well Armel, things are not as bleak as you pretend at the moment. In
Oxford I used a standard Siemens D5000 with primary monochromator and we
measured routinely 3d elements. I must admit that at times you get a
rather horrible and high background, but the refinements are in general
fine, with standard deviations not too different from our other samples.
Normally we measure for about 24hrs.

Sure! And you can allways fit a peak with consists out of two components,
but at times you can be really struggeling to find out whether you see
peak splitting due to alp1/alp2 or due to a slight reduction in symmetry
or stcking faults. If you can rule out the machine straight away, than
life becomes a bit easier.
