AIFF is uncompressed, very similar to WAV. Some googling tells me that iTunes may support id3 tagging of AIFF, so that's one small difference.
I think I've read your logic for using WAV instead of FLAC. Whatever. Not my problem. Keep in mind that for use on a battery powered iPod, uncompressed audio (AIFF) will burn battery power faster than files using lossless compression (ALAC) which will burn battery power faster than files using lossy compression (AAC or MP3). If dBpowerAMP can't transcode and do the filename to tag conversion at the same time, then you're left with the other choice.
