EAC is the best ripping program on PC, xACT is said to be the best on
Mac (I myself have PC).

Yes, your compressed files are losslessly compressed - if they were
100% of the size on CD they wouldn't be compressed. They will be
uncompressed to play exactly the same audio data, if they are ripped
correctly.

If you save your files in a lossless format not natively supported by
your Transporter/SB it has to be decompressed on the server, then
either transferred as wav or recompressed to a supported format (like
FLAC). If you run wired you should go for wav, with wireless your
bandwidth may be a problem. But to encode a wav to FLAC is many times
more computing-intensive than decoding it, so if you in the future want
to have your music with SlimServer running on a NAS (so your computer
can be turned off) this might be a bad solution. The processor in the
NAS might not be up to it.
