thanks jeffmeh & funkstar for your replies. funkstar - when you load MP3s on your portable player, do you transcode from the FLAC files on the fly, or do you have a separate collection of MP3s? i hadn't thought of doing that (on the fly), seems like it would be slow, but maybe cleaner.
